Reimagining Possibility

What if catechesis began with unlearning?

It all began with a wound. Really. The wound in Genesis leading to the ultimate wound in the New Testament. In our Catholic understanding all flows from, through, into, and out of the wound, or wounds, of someone we call our Savior.

Catechesis.live starts with our wounds and what flows in, out, through, and into them. Might sound scary or dark, but it isn’t. We might not be able to identify our wounds. That’s okay. They are simply the touchstone where we learn and unlearn who we are and who God is. All wounds spark breakdown, and all breakdowns spark unlearning. So, let’s begin with what we need to unlearn, before we invite in the paradox of truth, beauty, and goodness that teaches and touches healing, release, and growth.

Catholic environments can be places where you feel confused, judged, bored, or forced to suppress your questions and experiences.

Many can feel afraid, angry, lonely, or the need to conform, repress, or deny to belong.

For others, there is a desire and longing to go deeper into the spiritual life and meaning of Catholicism, but they don’t know where to find it.

Is the God in Catholicism big enough to handle the doubts, questions, longings, and complexities that come with the reality of lived experience?

Catechesis.live begins with owning, unpacking and unlearning our faith experiences (be they positive or negative), and then opening ourselves to the paradox of God, ourselves, and creation in all its wonder and mysterious awe and glory.
